TAP 2003 voice classes are offered as a minor program or
as a concentration with the Musical Theatre major. Students
will study classic technique, prepare a vocal repertoire for
performance and audition and learn about the history of musical
performance.
TECHNIQUE – Examine proper vocal techniques.
HARMONY – Strengthen ensemble singing
capabilities through an exploration of classical and Broadway
songs written in multiple parts. Class will also emphasize
sight-reading.
CLASSICAL REPERTOIRE – Create a repertoire
of ranging styles from French art songs to contemporary spirituals.
BROADWAY REPERTOIRE – Go from singing
a song to acting a song in this class focusing on the American
musical. Study standard song form and be introduced to a wide
variety of composers and lyricists.
MODERN AMERICAN MUSIC – Study some
of the forms of North American popular music including ragtime,
blues, jazz, swing, music hall, Tin Pan Alley and the musical.
